OUR STORY
Hello, I’m Scott Guthridge, president of Providence Homes. I started in the construction trade right out of high school working for a carpenter who specialized in installing trim in new homes. We also finished basements, built decks, did roofing and a variety of construction tasks. I realized that construction was a good fit for me and worked in the trade in various capacities for the next few years. Working in the cold winters was the only thing that made me second-guess pursuing homebuilding as a vocation.
After spending some time overseas with a Christian missions organization, I decided to attend Millersville University and pursued a degree in Accounting. During these years, I worked in a custom cabinet shop building custom kitchens, worked on framing crews, spent a summer installing siding, and another summer painting new homes. After my college graduation I worked for a short time in public accounting. It didn’t take me long to realize that my heart was still in construction. Even the cold winters seemed better than working in an office. I resigned and decided to fix up old houses to resell. At this point I threw all of my energies back into the construction trade and developing ideas for a new business. I think it was in my blood, because I felt alive again.
In April 1997 we incorporated our business with the name Cocalico Properties, Inc. At that time the focus of the business was primarily restoring old houses and reselling them. As time passed we started doing renovation work for clients and made remodeling our main focus. In 2000 we built our first new home, and the rest, they say, is history. All of my experiences in the various construction trades prepared me for what we do now, build quality homes. Our homes have aesthetic appeal and incorporate details that keep maintenance to a minimum.
When I had the opportunity to build new homes I wanted to build them so that they would stand the test of time. I did not want to come back in a couple of years and have to replace brick moulding, door jambs, and door slabs on my homes. I did not want to remodel my own houses after a few short years, as I had done for so many other homeowners.
These experiences shape how I build today. The staff and trade contractors we have the privilege of associating with want to do things right the first time as well.
In February 2007 we added the trade name "Providence Homes & Neighborhoods" to better convey and brand the type of work we primary do now; building homes in neighborhoods that reflect the quality and continuity of style we have become known for.
"Providence" to me is more than just a nice word, it is a constant reminder that I need God's help and guidance every day.
Thank you for reading, please contact us and let us show you how we are different.
Sincerely,

Scott Guthridge
